A Big Mac With Cheese

Dear MacBook,

I think you and I need to have a talk. You came into my life 9 months ago after my painful breakup with PC. We had a complicated, long-term relationship that left me heartbroken. After years of laughter, games, and late night chatting, he just stopped loving me. Out of nowhere, shut me out completely.

Then you showed up. All sleek, handsome and completely foreign. Oh, how your software makings drew my intrigue. All of my friends warned me about you. They said we would be too different for each another. You too complicated, and me on the rebound. But it all just made me want you more.

Now 9 months have passed and I’m afraid that my feelings for you may be changing. I’m sure you can sense it when I ignore your updates, press aggressively on your keys, or when I don’t even bother shutting you down. But you’re starting to…well…suffocate me!

By this time in my relationship with PC, he began slowing down and not attending to my needs like he did in the beginning. But you, you haven’t budged. You still rock my world! But maybe just a little too much. I mean, I’m with you all. day. long. You stand next to me while I’m cooking, lay with me in bed, and sometimes, you even follow me into the bathroom! Not to mention that one time you made my hair look like a lump of seaweed on the webcam.

Honestly, I think we need some space. Your constant email alerts are starting to make me twitch a little. How about an afternoon or two away from each another to do our own thang? Or better yet, we both go into sleep mode for more than 5 hours straight?

Don’t worry, your half bitten logo still lights my fire. I love me some forbidden fruit. But please, let me tinkle in peace.

Love,

Me

P.S. Thank you so much for all the comments and suggestions in yesterdays post. I promise to reply or visit some of your blogs today. Mondays always seem to keep me painfully distracted from the blogosphere.

Cute :) I’m mad at my MacBook and ipod. Why can’t I freaking take songs off my ipod and put them on my laptop? So, stupid! :) Hope you and your Mac have a nice little break. :)

I adore this. I am looking for a Mac man myself. I try not to covet thy neighbor’s laptop. But with such a stud at your beck and call, doesn’t even argue with you, how can I not help but to feel just a smidge green with envy…

    Love this post Sandy :)

I LOVED my Mac laptop. It was so sleek, so fine tuned..and so addictive. He pulled what your PC did. He died after a 5 year love affair.

It’s so easy to get addicted. I’m strictly a PC guy, though. With the occasional dabble with Linux if I’m feeling particularly withdrawn. :D

I am so scared of technology, I don’t know if I could venture away from the PC. But everyone that has a Mac seems to love a Mac. Maybe one day, I’ll get a little braver. It’s not like I don’t have enough kids around here to teach me how to use the dang thing!

My best friend LOVES her Mac and is constantly encouraging me to switch from my trusty PC habit. I’m tempted since when I buy a new laptop I’ll need to learn a new operating system anyway since I’m using XP Pro on my Dell 9100 Inspiron (that will be 5 years old in April of this year and is doing some strange things memory-wise) and any new Dell (or PC) I purchase will undoubtedly run Vista … but I also remember listening to her transitional frustrations a couple of years back when she made the transition so I’m torn. I’m open to input … but am going to take my time with a decision. I’ve not posted anything new this morning, but don’t think I had posted at Small Reflections yesterday when I visited here … so my Monday post should be new to you. Heheheh
    Hugs and blessings,

I am lusting after a laptop. I want one badly. I want to be able to take it to the restroom with me, to sit it at the table at mealtimes, to have no life…

And yet I’m tied to this desk model.

My desktop and I had to take a little break to day. For almost an hour (an hour!), I went outside and did yard work. And breathed fresh air. I’d forgotten what it was like. Computer, it’s not you, it’s me. Except that it IS you.

    Loved this post.

I hate Microsoft. I have been doing computers since 1982, one way or the other, and I hate what they have done to software and the software industry. That said, I was never a big fan of Apple, either, because of their proprietary and pricey hardware and software systems. But since they’ve gone over to Intel-based systems and their new operating system is, essentially, BSD Unix, they are much better. Personally, I am a Linux evangelist and have been for many years now. This comment is being prepared on a 64-bit Linux OS (openSUSE 10.2) running in Dell hardware. But Linux still has a way to go to be be usable by the ‘general’ public. That said, if you can fit your tasking into the Linux profile (browsing, Office stuff, email and SOME applications) that is the way to go. And you can always come to me for support.

Do you like the Apple that much, really? We are in the laptop buying mode within the year. We still have an old desktop unit. With as much time as I spend on it, I don’t spend any time anywhere else in the house, it seems.

My PC is sorely neglected in our office, the poor thing. The whole family pretty much waits in line to use the Mac. Guess who’s always the LAST in line to use it… and by then it is so late and I’m so tired that I just give up. My 4-year-old DOMINATES the Mac (my husband just taught her to say that, too: “I dominate!”) http://www.starfall.com – my child’s preschool away from preschool. Anyway, yeah, I think it’s time for mama to get her OWN Mac (bow-chica-bow-wow!)

    Excellent and hilarious.

Also, just FYI: we had those “ghosts” walking around in our attic for a while, and even talking. Couldn’t understand their words at all, but the cadence was distinctly language. Turned out to be raccoons. They’re a real safety hazard as they can carry rabies (only a problem if they actually bit you), so if the footsteps start having voices attached, I suggest calling an animal control person to investigate. Or maybe if you don’t hear voices. Unwanted 4-legged friends are a whole lot easier and less scary to get rid of than a ghost! :) Good luck!

Our love affair with a Mc Intosh pc is really intriguing. It is so sophisticated as to leave us breathless. Most people just want a functional computer that would leave them in peace when erudition is not required. Thanks for the hilarious post. God bless you and your loved ones always.

    *Shudder*

I’ve always been a PC user, but the six years I worked in television, I did all my editing and work on a Mac.

While I love me some Final Cut Pro, I don’t think you could pay me enough to ever buy a Mac for my personal use. You are a brave woman!!!
