A Quickie for the New Year

Today’s post is going to be brief and scattered. I have a few tasks to complete before midday, but I’ll do my best to post something else later on in my Sideblog on the right (aka- Commercial Break). Anyhow, I’ll get right to it…

To all of my family, friends, regular readers, subscribers, visitors, lurkers (I know you’re out there) I’d like to share this message I received in an email:

  • May peace break into your house.
  • May thieves come to steal your debts.
  • May the pockets of your jeans become a magnet for $100 bills.
  • May love stick to your face like Vaseline and may laughter assault your lips!
  • May your clothes smell of success like smoking tires.
  • May happiness slap you across the face and may your tears be that of joy.
  • May the problems you had forget your home address.

And may the New Year bring you along wonderful journeys on new and exciting paths…

NH trail

May you all have a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous 2008!!!

What was your most memorable/crazy/rockin’ New Year’s Eve? Please share!Hubby is at work today, and I’ll be sitting at home, snowed in, and probably passed out by the time the ball drops in Times Square. Since we had our daughter, we’ve stayed home every year. Kids really do change everything. I was either breastfeeding or never managed to sucker someone into babysitting on New Year’s Eve…..Oh! Who am I kidding? We’re just too damn tired to go anywhere! Anyhow, my most memorable New Year’s Eve was in Miami during my early 20’s. Details and names have been left out to protect, well…me.

There was a house party, a roman candle war with a few dozen adults (not recommended if you value your life, or appendages), a vague memory flickers of a tropical fish tank, staring at the stars through clouds of smoke post midnight fireworks, consuming a bottle of Moet (first and only time, promise), maybe some Mexican food, and then closing the night with many, many chalky TUMS.

K. Your turn.

My memory is a little vague, but there was something about wrestling in the snow . . .

Happy New Year! We used to gather with friends and eat great food and play board games until you needed toothpicks to hold your eyes open.

    Hi Sandy,
I think that you and Ella should pack up and head to NY to our 2nd annual New Years Eve Party! It is really the “come to our house to party for New Years ~ because we have kids and can’t go out!” lol but it works!! We hang out and have a good time, put the kids to bed and then break out the board games, liquor & beer and get down to having an awesome time!! It is all friends and family so there is no shame, well at least not till the next morning when we click through all the pics on the computer from the night before!! lol Good times… I could give you directions and Ella could share the girls’ room with them… everyone crashes here so there isn’t ANY chance of drinking and driving and also being on the road with the not so smart (asses) people that do drink and drive.
HAPPY HEALHTY New Year to you and your family!! Wishing you all the BEST in 2008!!

Happy New Year! My most memorable one was when I was 17, and had a midnight kiss and a random make-out session with a guy who was going in to the Air Force the next day. My friends were SCANDALIZED.

Mama Zen-…ooooh! Nice and vague ;) Snow can be lots of fun!

Christine— I may need to borrow those toothpicks for tonight ;)

Jo-N— Happy New Year to you and yours!

Jennifer- You my dear are the coolest mom! :) It’s people like you that drives me into the wee hours of the morning wanting to blog! Your party sounds like a HOOT! Ella is dying for some socialization these days too…but I think hubby would have a heart attack if I packed up our stuff and fled out of the state today, hehe…(that alone, is pretty darn tempting for me). He’s working today, and I’m not sure how late he’ll be….but possibly next year at your house!!

Bipolarlawyercook—Whew! A kiss AND random make-out??? Man, to be a teenager again ;)

last year my roommate and I both had to work at a 4-star hotel’s front desk. We got yelled at by cranky rich people all night because housekeeping couldn’t get everyone’s rooms cleaned right on time and the new years eve packages were all a mess. One woman had her credit card denied and cried at the desk for a half hour.

I got out at 11:40, went to the locker room w/ the roommate and changed, popped a bottle of champagne while changing, and poured it into the glasses we brought along. Then we put the bottle in an Urban Outfitters bag and drank it while walking down Broad St. here in philadelphia.

We went to the closest bar, which happened to be at the Ritz Carlton. It was 11:50pm when we got there, so we didn’t have time to get a drink at the bar -too crowded. At midnight, we guzzled our own champagne and kissed each other on the cheek.

We finished our own bottle, and then got free drinks from the bartenders for the rest of the night (we frequent that bar and we’ve made a lot of friends).

It was def. one for the books.

Jessica–W.O.W! What. a. night……Def. one for the books! I’m sure working the front desk that night was a nightmare….at least you weren’t there at 4am ;) And the lady crying at the front desk….OMG!

aww I got that email too :) it’s a good one eh!

My best New Years Eve memory is probably the one just before I’d met the hubby. I was a student and had gone back to my student digs early to go to a party – it was snowing so heavily we were frozen ducking into all the people me and my group of friends were going around to see.

Snowball fights to bring in the new year… now that was one to remember :)

I’m not sure I remember any of the good ones – just the incredible hangovers. I remember one painfully sunny January 1st that I had to drive 50 miles to get home. The funny thing was that no matter where I pointed the car, the sun was dead in my eyes. That was many years ago – but the memory lingers still.

I celebrated New Year’s Eve aboard the Queen Mary one year and that was memorable. Lots of dancing, food, wine, fireworks … and, of course, glorious Southern California weather!
    Happy New Year everyone!

Good Lord! New Year’s has never been great for me…I never can get a cab in this city on NY’s. Seems I was always chasing after one of my drunken friends ’cause they didn’t have a man to kiss…plllllllt! Give me Halloween any day over New Year’s. I’ll be lucky to see the ball on TV…Bring on ‘08, I’m feelin’ good about it, happy New Year’s!

Best wishes to you as well :) !!

We stayed at home and slept through.
6 days with 12 hours each just don’t put you in Party mood in a country where alcohol is forbidden officially anyway ;)

    Best New Years?
    Tough one.
Maybe the one with hubby in Amsterdam and the one in Luxembourg.

    But besides that, I don’t remember :P

  24. CharityNo Gravatar

I did a fat lot of nothing. LOL I sat on my rear end, played around on Kaneva, drank Kool-Aid (seriously), and ate homemade chicken and rice soup. Boring! :)

  25. ChickNo Gravatar

Happy New Year! Mine was horrifyingly boring.

I found you via Blog 365. I clicked on your blog because I thought you looked cute and fun. Yes, I am that shallow. :)

Our oldest will be 11 this month. We haven’t been exciting for 11 years. OK, facing it…we’ve never been exciting, but we at least had the option pre-kids. We did throw caution to the wind and partake of morning-glory sparklers last night.

Even though we are boring, we are boring together. Last year I was stranded in Charlotte, then Atlanta, trying to get home. It was horrible not being with hubby at midnight. My cousin didn’t get it, but I was rather upset.

Ah yes-roman candle wars-I remember them well! (Sort of!) I almost blew my face off with one on a drunken 4th of July. The guy who saved me lives around here and I thank him every time I see him!

I’m loving that I’m not hungover today. For as wild as I used to be-I am now the complete opposite. I got my ya-yas out a long time ago.

We were just talking about New Year’s Eve and how we’ve never made much of it. My expectations always seemed to outpace reality! We’ve had nights out with friends, nights in with bottles of wine, and nights at the homes of other grown ups with babies. I prefer those best, actually. Happy New Year!

My favorite New Years was when I was 17 as well. My girlfriend’s alcoholic father was at the bar so we had a party at her house. Her older brother had a band and everything. I was almost 18, and boy did we have a blast.

Wait…Mom’s not reading this is she???

    I love this!

Hmmm – my most memorable New Year’s was probably going to a Moroccan restaurant and belly dancing on a table with the professional dancers. Yeah, I’d had a few drinks. :P I heard I was pretty good, though – I ended up taking lessons later!
