Because I can’t live in a bubble
I finally did it.
I may have been on the fence, but after reading about her son, his son, and her situation, it was the extra push I needed to make my decision.
My Ob/Gyn office received a small shipment of the H1N1 vaccine last week. Being pregnant, I am on their priority list and was called immediately.
So I went.
As much as I wish we could lock ourselves inside until spring, we cannot.
My husband takes public transportation to work. My daughter goes to preschool.
And I am obligated to assist in my daughter’s classroom every few weeks, as well as walk in and out of a hospital for check-ups.
There is too much at risk to go unprotected.
The only problem now is finding a way to get everyone else in our house vaccinated.
There is a widespread shortage here. Clinic lines are hours long, and scores of people end up being turned away.
Turns out the vaccine has become liquid gold.

Wow, I didn’t realize it was so hard to get…

We did have our kids vaccinated with H1N1 and Thursday they go get the seasonal.

It’s horribly impossible to get the vaccine here. Horribly.
I’m on the fence about it myself. I’m not pregnant. But, Wuzzle is in “Little Girl School” 2 days a week, and they have had a confirmed case there. So, I’m thinking maybe if I can get in to get it (big IF) then I will get it for Wuzzle.

I’m so glad that you went ahead and got one! My son has had his first dose and has his appt in two weeks for the second dose and I just got mine last night. Speaking of the clinics, 3 hours in line, cold, windy night, brought a camping chair, tons of snacks and games for the kiddo, but we made it and I am now vaccinated! I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Good luck getting your family vaccinated.

Better safe than sorry. We have shortages here, too, and since I’m not pregnant and we’re a generally low risk family (no pre-school, public transportation, etc), I’m not really pounding the pavement hunting it down. It’s scary business, though.

Momisodes, I have read so m,uch, and heard so much about the crisis of low distribution of the vaccine. If I can vaccinate before I risk getting sivck, I will.
But, I have great satisfaction to hear you have gotten the shot. Delightful.
If I recall correctly you are the one with the wonderful multi-hue childrens bed, the one with steps. I think anyone who would buy that for her kids deserves to get the vaccine…
November 7th, 2009 at 1:57 am
When I found out that my hospital had the vaccine, I immediately called to see if I qualified to get it. They were only giving to: those living with babies under 6 mo, pregnant women, and health care/emergency workers. I tried to explain that I was a Speech Pathologist–did I qualify? They said yes. So I ran across the hall, told the teachers there I was leaving to get my shot, rushed away from school, ran down to the hospital and stood in line. 2 days later, I was on the website again and saw that now kids 6mo-4 years could get the vaccine as well. So I rushed my daughter down (I had taken a sick day since dh wasn’t feeling well), and she got the nasal spray. Phew! Now I just need a way to get the boys in for their shots/spray. Too many people at my school have gotten H1N1. I am NOT playing around with this one at all.
