Blame it on my…maturity

Early in life, youth offers many benefits.

People cook for you. Bathe you. Chauffer’s even drive you around town to the places you need to go.

However, aside from what seems to be a life of leisure, there really is work to be done.  Work in the form of play.

And there is much of it to be done.

Don’t be mistaken though.  It is no easy task.  There are many potential roadblocks along the way.  Things such as colds, flu, and other hazards that come with falling temperatures.

But with youth, comes resilience; the ability to find your feet quickly, always adaptable.

Especially when you move from warm southern California, to the bitter cold of Massachusetts at the unripe age of 15 months.

babisodessnowangel

The transition was seamless.

Now at 3, she even complains of being “too hot!” when the mercury barely reaches 50 degrees F.

Unfortunately, the same laws do not apply to those lacking youth.  Especially when you’ve been raised in sweltering, hot, and humid south Florida for over 25 years.

The adaptability curve is a little bit steeper.

I don’t ever remember being cold when I was a kid. I would stay our all day if I was allowed. I don’t like to stay out more than five minutes now if I can help it.

The reverse is true for Robert and me. We moved from the cold to the heat and humidity. We have found it much easier to adapt to the warm climate. We now complain when the temperature drops to 50 and heaven forbid it to get to 39 that must be freezing. Summers are easy — just stay in under the air conditioner.

Great pictures of the two of you. :)

I cannot handle the cold weather at all! This winter is dragging on way too long for me. My electric blanket is my BFF!

It really puzzles me why kids easily get hot. Even if my daughter is in an air conditioned room, she still sweats.

That is so true! Kids are so much better at adapting. :)

I must have voted less than 24 hours ago because it won’t let me vote again. I’ll try again later. :)

    Haha, isn’t that the truth?!

So funny how children are able to adapt to, well, anything, but us? Not so much!

I so so so so wish I were in CA right now. I need sun. I seem to recall something about a big yellow ball in the sky, but it’s a fuzzy memory.

I have always called Chicago home. Sweated in the Summer. Frozen in the Winter. Spring and Fall have always been the most survivable, in terms of heat, or the lack of it, and humidity. But as I get older (and BOY, am I getting older), I find myself more and more friendly to heat and humidity (Like that lovely week in Trinidad) and much less so to cold – over even ‘chilly’. You and me, babe. Let’s run away to Florida.

Great blog, I popped over from Jenners’ and she’s right–your blog is fabulous. Congrats on being nominated for the MB Awards. That’s a big deal since there are a LOT of us mommy bloggers! What did I do before the blogosphere found me.. (oh yes, I cleaned my house.)

My son is ALWAYS hot. He sleeps in his underwear WITH a fan.

It always amazes me how kids can spend hours at a time in the snow – toes, fingers and noses all numb. But I guess I was like that too, before I went and got all danged grown-up. *blah*

  16. MarylinNo Gravatar

I’m dreading that about moving up north – it’s SO much colder up there! Although the boys will get used to it easily enough, I don’t think I ever will…

Having grown up in Nebraska and now Colorado… the snow has always been a welcome part of my life.

The past few winters when we frequent California, I’ve always gotten quite the giggle when “locals” are in their winter coats at 50 degrees and I’m ready to jump in a swimming pool *lol*

I lived in NY for most of my life and then moved to NC and now reside in MD. I hate the cold up here and wish I was back in the south. Before I didn’t know any different, but now, I need my weather to be less cold and more warmth.

We moved eight miles when the Grouch was three.

    He never forgave us.

    I don’t think adaptability is a youth trait. I think it’s a genetic trait.

As for cold, there is no way I could live in the snow ridden north. My hubby is from CANADA, and he walks around in t-shirts all winter and whines about the heat at 80. I’m from Texas, and I won’t go out in the winter (at no less than 40 degrees) without four layers.
