Can you hear me now?
Somewhere along the way, my intuition must have lost it’s signal.
From full bars to none, in the last nine months I feel as if I’ve exhausted my energy trying to get by. I gaze outside, searching for something recognizable, a connection that will lead me to a familiar place. Like a freeway off-ramp to a different town, but must surely be the one that leads you to where you want to go.
Or so it seems.
Back in July, I somehow tested positive on a pregnancy test after a final round of Clomid.
After a year of trying to conceive, endless medical tests, and medication side effects, I had had little hope that month. But a stroke of luck proved me wrong.
I never imagined this path would be straight or evenly paved. Especially since this is not my first time down this road. Albeit 5 years since my last pregnancy, I figured I would recognize, perhaps even anticipate, some of the twists and turns along the way.
The lack of morning sickness, carrying low, a lower fetal heart rate, all pointed in the direction of a boy. All unfamiliar from when I had my girl.
Alas, I was wrong again. The sonographer saw a taco, not a hot dog.
As early as 18 weeks pregnant, I already began having contractions. None of them strong or too alarming, but contractions nonetheless. In my previous pregnancy I began preterm labor at 25 weeks and was placed on bed rest until I gave birth at 38 weeks.
This time around, due to the earlier contractions, I had high hopes that this baby would be our first sign of spring after a long, bizarre weathered winter.
But today, at 39 weeks pregnant, there is still little indication of this baby vacating the premises anytime soon. Birthing Babisodes at 38 weeks was incredibly difficult due to her size, and I worry that if this child cooks for much longer, they may need to go in and get her.
I feel as if I’ve driven past the right exit-ramp a dozen times now, but every time, a barricade is blocking the path.
Perhaps this little one takes after me and wants to make sure all signs of winter are gone before making her exit. Or maybe she lost her GPS signal as well.
Either way, I hope this detour isn’t much longer.
I washed and put away most of our winter gear today. Just in case.
I hope both counts are true. I’m totally done with this winter, and I know you’re ready to have a baby in your arms, rather than shoving your pelvis from together. Maybe she’ll be a weekend baby…

You are constantly on my mind. Baby 2.0 is constantly on my mind. I know she’s close. I try not to think about her. I try to focus on other things. But I find myself, constantly, looking to see if there’s a new Momisodes, hoping that it will be The Announcement. Praying.

Oh, those last weeks are the WORST! Knowing it could happen any day — can’t make any real plans — plus just being miserable. Yuck; that was the only part of my pregnancy that I didn’t like.

I remember how anxious my wife got with the impending birth of each of our kids. I feel for you (you know, as much as I can as a man). Here’s hoping this is the week you bring the next little beauty into the world!

Putting away the winter stuff pretty much guarantees snow. It happens to me every year. The day after I take the boots to the basement…snow.

With all of our grand obstetric knowledge, no one yet knows what starts labor. There’s a Nobel prize waiting for the guy (or gal) who figures it out.
You could jump up and down a lot?
Fasting works for some people–there’s an increase in birth rates in Israel immediately after Yom Kippur (although fasting at 39 weeks is almost a physical impossibility).

So many great lines in this post (like a taco not a hot dog LOL), but this one is my favorite:

That perfectly describes those last few days of pregnancy. Of course, it could describe any big event in life too.

My intuition has always been sort of on the fritz. I was wrong about all three of my kids…I thought Isaac was a girl and both girls were boys. And I went into the hospital on false alarm labor with all three. I’m a dork.

Ugh! How perfectly frustrating! Hang in there! That baby will come soon. I was at “41″ weeks or so they decided when Jonathan decided he would make an appearance. Even then it was 24 hours of labor.

When I was pregnant with my second girl, everyone except I think 2 or 3 out of 50 people said I was having a boy despite me telling them it was a girl. My workplace threw babyshower and what do you know? I had so many boy gifts. Well, when I called to let my manager know I had a girl, she had me on speaker and I heard a loud gasp from the staff. Yeah, I wish they gave me gift receipts to exchange the gifts.
