Close, but no cigar

I fully admit to doing it.  As much as I try to divert my eyes in grocery check out lines, I invariably glance at the tabloid covers.

I rarely reach over and actually pull one off of the shelf, and I have never opened one to read.

However, I have to say, the horrible photographs and smut do grab my attention for a second.

Especially if there is some kind of horrific photo of a celeb caught off guard, wearing a bikini, with cottage cheese and bat wings all hanging out and flappin’ in the wind.

And if there’s a celebrity mom who recently gave birth on the cover, I silently pray the person in line before me has coupons and needs a price check so I can do a double take.

I mean I need some reassurance that I’m not the only one with a lumpy ass, some extra skin…

…or an extra 10 pounds they can’t seem to shake.

I know I don’t have personal trainers, a plastic surgeon, or even the energy to think about working out. But this time around, I cannot help but feel just plain old.

By this time after my first pregnancy, I was already back into my size 4 jeans.

This time? Not so much. Even though I gained significantly less weight.

My body feels more tired and my joints more achy than they did last time.

You know you’re getting old when everyone at the “New mom support group” is younger than you.

You know you’re getting old when your daughter points out the ‘freckles’ on your hands, but you realize they’re really just age spots.

You know you’re getting old when the only cast member from GLEE older than you is Sue Sylvester.

I totally need my own Madonna video remake.

the 2nd baby takes longer to recover from, i think. and the 3rd…fuhgitaboutit.

I still go through this mental battle every day – 6 months later. Don’t worry too much about it. I keep telling myself I need to live in the moment. Seven weeks really isn’t that long. I totally agree with Melissa, it is harder on the body after the first time. My back still aches and stuff. But, a good friend of mine is a physical therapist, and he reassured me that if you’re bewbfeeding, Relaxin sticks around keeping all those msucles still loose. So you can thank it for that. I just thought I was falling apart and crack-alacking all over the place. Hugs!!

I probably couldn’t fit so much as an ankle into even your “fat” jeans. Thin is relative :) Good luck getting where you’re comfortable, but I think you look lovely.

I was going to say something like, ” I wish i look that good”…but, in honesty, it doesn’t matter if you’re a 4 or a 6 and I’m a whatever, what matters is that i totally understand where you’re coming from.
It’s always harder the second time around and the older you get, the harder it is.

Give it time and you’ll be feeling (and looking) like yourself soon enough :)

What is this size 6? I have never seen it! ;)

Shifting the weight 2nd time round is hard. Partly cause it’s the 2nd time, partly cause it’s more exhausting with 2 compared to 1, so you don’t have the same amount of time to take care of yourself!

You’re beautiful no matter what! Just remember that! xx

I also like to glance at the tabloid covers. Often I wonder if its the actual celeb or a close look alike. I wonder how much of the garbage on the cover is true. I will never buy one though. not even for alien babies conceived by Elvis as interesting as that may be.

Sounds like this pregnancy took more out of you, for whatever reason. They do deplete the mom’s resources — in the old days when women just kept having children, they would die after 10 or 15! You look wonderful. 20 years from now you’ll look at these pictures and wish you could have enjoyed your youth and your shape — believe me, you will. Your body knows what it’s doing. So relax, try to enjoy life, and forget the small stuff. :D

You are being way too hard on yourself. Why do women do this to themselves? Nobody cares. Please do not use Hollywood as the standard as to what you should look like. It only been seven weeks. Everything was already stretched out and shifted after baby #1 and it does take longer to go back into place after baby #2. Just be grateful that there isn’t a paparazzi following you around to catch you without make-up in your bikini.

I think you look FANTASTIC! Ignore the belly. It’s just the mama blues.

I am actually a few pounds lighter than I was when I got pregnant and I’m still only just fitting into the biggest of my pre-baby clothes. My body has changed. No getting around it.

A year or so before I had my daughter, I was talking with a friend of mine who was fighting to lose her own baby weight. She told me her son had said he loved her stomach, that it was squishy. Which mortified her, but was high praise from him. And she said that it is a great irony that what is pleasing to the eye is not necessarily what is pleasing to the touch. That line has stuck with me.

I think our sortof mushy postpartum bodies are natures way of making us cuddly. Sure, we’re not fitting in our skinny jeans, but our babies will love nuzzling into us. And while I would love to look like Heidi Klum, HOLY COW HAVE YOU SEEN HER?!, I try to look at the bumps and rolls as a badge of honor.
