Some things are better left untouched, for they could lead you to places for which you are not prepared.
Places like the internet. Forums. Chatting.
All which could ultimately lead to meeting in person.
I mean, you never know who you may end up face to face with, right? Although you might end up meeting your future husband.
While I was adventurous enough to seek out my geek spouse online, there is still one thing I have yet to do with my online identity. I have not attended a large-scale blog conference. I have yet to be in a room with hundreds of other people who do exactly what I do everyday online. However, in just a few weeks, I will be in Chicago attending my first BlogHer.
Yes, I am a BlogHer virgin.
But last weekend, Susan Getgood was kind enough to open her home for a pre-conference meet-up, in order to get myself and other Boston area bloggers to…well…second base.
I entered her home with such nervous jitters, I completely forgot to take photos throughout most of the event. Actually. Scratch that. I was just too busy yammering. Being in a house full of amazing bloggers and having the chance to actually speak with a voice, rather than through text, was almost surreal.
It was an incredible afternoon getting the chance to meet everyone. Some even brought along their families and I recognized their faces immediately.
The meet up was just enough to wet my palate, but still leaving me thirsting for more.

Sounds like a great time. I often think it would be nice to meet some of the people I “know” from my time in the blogopshere.

You look so great. That must have been such an amazing experience. I’m dying to go to a BlogHer conference or even meet up but they are too far from where I live.

You’re braver than I am. I don’t even know what BlogHer is, but I’m sure I’m not going to Chicago to meet bloggers. Not this year, anyway. You’re so talented and beautiful, I get mad when I read about your lack of self-confidence, but obviously it’s not as true as you think it is, because there you are, mingling just like everyone else, not sitting on the sidelines afraid to speak to anyone!

I’m a we bit jealous, not so much because you get to meet all the wonderful people, but because there are so many of you out there who can do this blog thing and make it look easy. I struggle everytime I start to write.

Sadly, a pre-blogher meetup in the DC/Balt area has fizzled. I am getting more and more excited about Chicago, though!! Let’s see, I need to get my hair cut, get a mani/pedi, lose 40 pounds and buy an entirely new wardrobe. I think that is totally doable in one month.

What? I’m TOTALLY Asian. I only masquerade as Black to keep my true identity a secret! That was my first blog meet-up too. I was so nervous! Being a neurotic mess is funny in print, but in person? Not always.
I was pleased to meet people I could actually talk to. And that picture of Babisodes? I’m sitting like 3 ft away, stuffing my own face with a hot dog. My cheeks were just as full as hers.

Just so you don’t think that I’m only into Asians…. OMG, Sandy you crack me up!!!! So glad you got to a pre-BlogHer meetup. I missed our local one due to a non-swine flu bug and I was more than a bit upset.
So, yeah, I don’t hold the Asian thing against me when we meet in a few weeks, ‘kay? I am also a virgin (ha!) and nervous and so pumped at the same time…
