Copy Cat

While growing up, I always wanted to be like my mom.  Not in the sense where I wanted to head out to work everyday from 9-5pm.  It was more about the little things, like putting my hair in curlers, attempting to walk in high heels, or pretending I knew what the heck those thick, cottony inside-out band-aids were under the bathroom sink.

Even Babisodes tries to emulate a bit of my persona. While I’m cooking dinner, she’ll stand at her play kitchen and chop wooden vegetables.  If I apply lip gloss, she’ll beg for her ChapStick.

I’m guessing this is normal behavior.

What I did not anticipate was what would happen once I became an adult. Now that I understand how uncomfortable high heels really can be once my feet actually fit into them, and how disappointing it is to see those cottony in-side-out band-aids every month.  I never imagined I’d see the shift of a role reversal with my own mother.

It’s been 4 days since I received my birthday gift (an iPod Touch) from Dadisodes. And in those 4 days, I’ve had it….oh….maybe 1 day to myself.   You would think that the computer geek in this house would be the electronic toy hogger, or perhaps the 3-year old.

Nope.  Neither.

The culprit is a nearly 60-year old woman.

Also known as my mother.

I am incredibly thankful that she came to visit us and help out while I’m recovering from my recent procedure.  But seriously, I had to put my foot down.  It was getting completely out of hand.  She was using my new toy and neglecting my child.

So I finally said something.

And you know what she did?

She got her own.

(Can you tell which one finally belongs to me?  I promise to get to all of your blogs soon.  I’m still recovering a bit today.)

I had to giggle at her getting her own. Funny how that works sometimes. Hope you are feeling better after your procedure. I was thinking about you while you were having it.

My dad has a Track Phone and still regularly accidentally sends me text messages without text when he’s trying to phone me for an old-fashioned conversation. He has a VCR with a flashing clock display. To be fair, he turns 89 at Thanksgiving… when I visit for that holiday, I’ll probably spend a few hours helping him set up accounts and email services, and then teach him how to use broadband–apparently, about three months ago he switched from dial-up, and he’s just not “getting it.”

You’re wrestling technology out of your mother’s hands; I’m wrestling it into my dad’s.

Jessi- Thank you so much Jessi. You are so sweet to remember :)

Trish- They ARE pretty sweet. Although, I’m still getting acquainted with it. But I LOVE it so far. I love that it picks up wi-fi and I don’t have to pay a monthly fee for a data plan.

Daniel- Aw, I totally feel your pain. If only we could get our parents to meet somewhere in the middle :)

  7. MomisodesNo Gravatar

Wendy- They’re hogging yours too? :(
Oh, for the apps to be on the bottom, just hold your finger down on any of the icons until all of your icons start to wiggle. Once they’re wiggling, just touch and drag them to where ever you want, even to the bottom toolbar. Once you’re done, just push the home button with the square to save. Hope that makes sense.

I love my iPod Touch! This nice thing about having a geek husband is that he apologizes with gadgets instead of flowers and candy :-0

One of my favorite apps is the Pandora radio station. I listen to it all day at work over the WiFi network.

I love your mom! I would need one of my daughters to teach me what to do with it. I barely can do this computer stuff and now you guys are doing it via a phone thingy.

But if the truth be known I’d so get on that bandwagon if hubby was the least bit technology inclined, but since he’s not I don’t get those kinds of things. Some day maybe.

ROFL! You all are too quick for me here.

Karen MEG- I am SO glad she bought one for herself. I’m sure it will keep her busy for quite some time.

Cajunvegan- LOL! When I found out my dad bought an iPod before I did, I nearly passed out.

Heather- Pandora radio station? Okay, I’m off to go find it :)

Cecily R- Not cooler. We just have new toys. Thank you so much for the well wishes :)

Mike- It is rather amazing to see how much we have in common sometimes. I am certainly thankful my mom’s been here with us.

    Wen- Crazy isn’t it?

Christine- LOL! I’ll be sure to tell her you think so ;)

Carrie- At 16? Wow. I can’t imagine. I’m glad your mom was there as well.

    Kim- You’re right!

Patsy- Well you’re not alone. I definitely had to sit down and walk my mom through doing anything on the iPod :) You can totally do it!

MamaWise- Oooh, the Crackberry is addicting. Dadisodes has one. He loves it!

    Muthering Heights- Thank you.

SarahHub- ROFL!!!!!!! Now you know what I’ve been doing for the past 24 hours ;) It’s so hard to peel myself away to do anything else.

Missy Wiggins- LOL! Yup, Twitterific was the total giveaway :)

Joyce-Anne- She does love it! Or rather she says its, “so cool.”

I can relate to old people being crazy technology junkies. Back when we were still on dial up like 8 or 9 years ago when the internet was all new and such my 60 year old Grandma decided she was going to get back into the dating game… online? Yep she scoured the net looking for a man and somehow found one too. She lived for ICQ and was using skype long before me!

I however would freely give up my husband’s left testicle for an iphone. Seriously I WANT ONE! BAD!!

  31. storyteller's other blogNo Gravatar

How funny and ‘kewl’ is this!!! I’m glad your mom is there to help out … and that you both took care of yourselves regarding the iTouch dilemma. I can’t help chuckling as I type this … remembering how I felt when I got my first Palm V more than a decade ago & my Life Drive the year I went to the Caribbean. How thrilling to access email from that tiny hand held device and transfer my photos from my digital camera freeing up memory to take more pictures. I have friends who are addicted to their iTouch and Blackberry … who ‘text’ one another incessantly, but somehow I’m content to be (relatively) ‘tech free’ when I leave home. I carry my cell phone for my own convenience, but refuse to pay for ‘texting’ and only answer it when I choose to do so. I’m happy for you and continue to pray for the good of all concerned.
    Hugs and blessings,

That’s so funny!! I had to talk my mom out of getting an iPhone and she already has an iPod mini (really early gagdet adopter). You of course would have Twitterific, Wordpress and Bejeweled 2 (and Momisodes too), and your mom has stocks right on top. You can learn a lot about a person from their iPod layout! I’m more of a purist, keeping most of the original icons in the same place because I had to suffer a year with the 1.x firmware and can’t get used to them being in a different place.

Hope you are feeling back to your old self soon!

I am SOOOO glad you got your iPod Touch woohoo! Yours is the one on the right. get the Remote application, you can control your iTunes library with your iPod with it, just like a remote. You can also control anyone else’s too. It’s sweet. There are also a ton of free games too.

I can’t believe she went out and bought her own! Sick. Hahahaha.
