Delurk and Wave! Rerolling the Blogroll
How do you find blogs? Do you join social communities? Search? Do you click on blogroll links on your favorite blogs?
I have to admit, I do all of the above. However, with the recent turn of events (see yesterday’s post), I may steer clear of the whole social community setting for a while. There is still the taste of sour apples at the moment. I digress. When I first began blogging a few months ago, I was addicted to clicking other people’s blogroll links. I have an inherent curiosity to see what other people are reading. By doing so, I’ve found some of my favorite daily reads and love placing them on my blogroll. The only downfall is my blogroll has become a bit of a monster. Some bloggers have designated an entire separate page for their blogroll list, and others are as far-reaching as mine.
On that note, I am revamping the Momisodes blogroll! My personal preference (at the moment) is to have my blogroll on my main page for easy access. I’m lazy. I also hate feeling squeezed for space whenever I want to add one. more. blog to the list. So last night I did a bit of searching for Wordpress blogroll plugins and found Better Blogroll. It allows me to display a configurable number of random links from my blogroll on my sidebar. I currently have it sent to display 10 random links from my blogroll each time the page is loaded. Just refresh if you want to see more. So when visitors arrive at Momisodes, they are not consumed by a monster blogroll on my sidebar anymore. I can now link to as many of your blogs as I like without making my page scroll on forever and ever.
So if you would like to be on the Momisodes blogroll, leave me a Comment below with thename of your blog, and the URL in the box field to link it to. That’s it! There are so many of you who I visit regularly and may not have listed already, or you visit here regularly and are not listed. I am horrible at keeping track of these things! *hangs head in shame* I have a bit of A.D.T.D. (Attention Deficit Toddler Disorder), where I’m focused on completing a task, but get interrupted by a toddler and forget what I was doing all together.
So de-lurk or give a regular *wave* to be blogrolled! If you would like to link back to Momisodes on your blogroll, please feel free to do so, and thank you! But if you would rather not, it’s cool. I look forward to visiting you all soon

Ah … the blogroll issue! Been there … done that … repeatedly. In fact, I have multiple Blogrolls in the sidebar of Small Reflections …(for T-13, Wordless Wednesday, Bloggers over 50, Everyday Kindness, my Writer’s Retreat friends, and perhaps some others in addition to my ‘favs’ to read)… yet I have trouble keeping mine ‘current’ because I tend to use Google Reader to keep up with new posts. I tend to use the links when creating ‘award’ posts, but not for much else. I mainly keep them there so my bloggy friends have easy access to one another, but I have no idea whether anyone uses them or cares.
Recently Rhonda (aka Chuck of Foster me Up) sent me the HTML code for a ‘scrolly box’ and I’ve moved the T-13 and WW blogrolls into separate ‘boxes’ which shortened things up a bit. I’ll be interested to see how your new solution works. I wonder if it’s available for Blogger sites or just Wordpress? As for being included … I enjoy the ‘exposure’ and ‘link-love’ … yet your ‘comment luv’ feature makes my posts available too … so I guess I’ll let you decide how you want to manage my blogs. I’m ‘easy’ about such things ya know ;–)

That’s a nice way to handle the blogroll thing. I haven’t put one up yet partially because they can be such a beast on the page (and partially cuz I haven’t gotten around to it yet). I like this concept, seems very cool!

I refreshed so many times your blog roll plugin decided I needed to be placed on restriction. HA! I usually find blogs through other people’s blogs and while I have recently discovered the joys of google reader, if there were no blog rolls I would find no blogs. Well, of course I find blogs through comments too.
I say pfft on structured “social communities”, they remind me too much of mommyboards. Let’s just say my one and only troll came from my August ‘03 mommyboard so I don’t join any.

My favorite ways to find new blogs is through BlogHer (that is why I struggle so much with titling my posts) if the Title grabs me, I click over. I find them through recommendations like awards and meme tags. But my favorite is to find them through comments. I look for names I have never seen with a witty comment or something in the comment that strikes me as something I would like to learn more about, etc.
Good idea on the blogroll. That is kind of like an equal opportunity blogroll. I am overwhelmed at other’s blogrolls anymore, too. My own blog roll is not up to date. I am embarrassed to show how many blogs I read daily or bi-daily or more than once a day, etc…. I just add them to my google reaader.

Good move -although it doesn’t matter to me if a blogroll has taken over your sidebar.
Your posts matter to me more than anything else. But that could be just a lame excuse for mmmm… being not observant at all. Heheh.
Re blogroll, I separated mine in another page and use blogrolling for that – and for no reason – I was only trying out blogrolling. But thanks for the buzz about Better Blogroll, I’ll check it out.

With my experiences with the social communities, I have found the attitude to be totally different than the normal bloggers that I have on my blog roll or even the ones anyone else has on theirs. To me, and this is my OWN opionion, I like the fact that we, over here, open up about our lives and experiences and even how we feel about things. From the sites i’ve hit in the social crowd they aren’t like that too much. That’s just basing my opinion on the sites i’ve been on over there…
I find new people by blog hoping as well. Half the time I don’t know HOW I found the friends I have, including you! I do know I was on one of the friends that I read and I jumped a couple of blogs and found both you and Jennifer that way…and i’m so glad that I did;o)

I need to “redo” my blogroll. For me it was a reading list. The blogs I click to daily. Of course right now it is NOT up to date at all.
I don’t use it though M-F because I have my blogs I like to read saved on my favorites in my browser..that is where you are, right in between Pocket Ace’s and Life at 909.. I found YOU through Sarcastic Mom..Weekly Winners.
I keep reading you because #1..you write about things I’m interested in..funny, serious, great pics etc..and #2..you will come by and read and comment on my blog.
If it’s ALWAYS a one way love affair I will eventually just delete and move on. There was one girl like that and I just didn’t get it. I was one of only 4 people that read her blog yet she never even recognized that I exsisted.. I felt it was rude. I don’t read her anymore.
I found two people today..one because I thought they left a really funny comment on another blog and another from a blogger I read’s blog roll.
I don’t really NEED more reading material..but some are just great!

Hmmm, I’ll have to look into that blogroll solution…right now I’ve got a separate page and while it’s lots of space, it isn’t on the front page. I’m also in the middle of re-doing my blog, so maybe I’ll experiment with the plug-in then!

I like that idea – I ended up having to do a blogroll page with the new site and feel bad to hide my links, but I may look into that plug in so I can rotate links on the main page.
