Facing facts
Even with everything going on right now, I am still feeling a bit gun shy.
We finally have a car seat for the baby due in a few weeks.
We even assembled the crib over the weekend.
Despite the unrelenting contractions (which appear to be coming more frequently), the crib mattress remains wrapped in plastic. Tags are still attached to the car seat straps. And the candy bar thrown into my overnight bag, is still the only thing I have packed.
I think deep down, until I meet this kick-boxer inside me face-to-face, she will not seem real.
Despite hearing her heartbeat every week during my checkups…
Or the fact that I look like I swallowed a pumpkin…
It still feels like a dream. Like when an eternity can pass in your slumber, but you awaken only to find that a few minutes have gone by.
Only the opposite.
As if last week I was still wearing skinny jeans and swinging my 4-year old in the air so she could fly.
But the reality is, time has marched on as it always has. With my heart and mind standing still, desperately reaching for any moment to savor, unwilling to let go.
Perhaps this is why the dolls I finally got around to sewing for Babisodes and her soon-to-be baby sister remain faceless.
Just another thing that will make this all feel more real.

I have always felt that way about my subsequent children!

I remember having that feeling. In fact with both kids I feel like it took about 4 weeks (after they were born) before it felt like they had always been a part of our family.

I *really* love those dolls.
I’m sure it will feel just the same way months from now soon-to-be sister starts crawling and chattering at you and once again we’ll be pondering how time has flown by despite our reluctance to acknowledge it. It seems to have a bad habit of doing that.

So, I’d like to place my order for a set of those dolls before you deliver Babisodes 2.0. How much do you charge for a set of three? Do you offer a deal like buy two get the third one free? Does the faces cost extra?
Glad you’re doing well. Hang in there, Sweetie. This is the easy part.

I’m not sure that having a kid is ever something you can really get fully prepared for LOL There’s always going to be something you didn’t think of haha
But, being a mom of 5 I can totally relate – our first baby is pretty much the only one I packed bags weeks in advance for and had the nursery set up way before she got here and all that. CONGRATS… not very long left!

Isn’t it funny how even something you want/wanted so badly makes you feel in “denial” of sorts???
That darn fear of change. Of the unknown.
It will all work out. You will adapt, adjust. At some point this life you have now will seem foreign. You will have a hard time remembering.
Life carries on, with us kicking and dragging behind.

You are not alone. I was in denial with my pregnancy with Monkey Girl. When we needed to get a bigger car (to fit the third child) I dragged my feet. She was a planned c-section but I didn’t pack until late the night before I was going into the hospital (and in fact, we were an hour late getting to the hospital for her delivery). Looking back I would have had my husband assemble the crib earlier, I wouldn’t him to do it until after the baby was born. Yeah, I was VERY hormonal with that pregnancy and extremely superstitious.
The homemade dolls are very cute. I hope you have an easy labor and delivery and wish you good luck for the rest of your pregnancy.
