From one end to the other

Please pardon me today, as I am a wee bit busy.

My mother has left my 95-year old grandmother in my care while she visits my brother in another state.  She only speaks Cantonese, and walks very slow with a cane.

Did I mention I also have a 3 1/2 year old daughter?  She only speaks English and Toddler-nese, and runs very fast with sharp objects.

I’m the only one in the house right now who speaks all three languages and has permanent teeth.

So you’ll have to excuse my short post today.

I have to make sure no one is turning the knobs on my sinks and stove unsupervised.

Or is climbing up and down the stairs alone.

Everyone’s food is cut into small pieces.

And NO vitamin swapping is taking place.

Because really.  Who can actually turn down a Gummy Vite?

Take a deep breath. Let it out. Feel better?

You may be swamped, but the chance for your daughter to get to know her great-grandmother? Priceless.

And kudos for speaking your family’s language. I hope you intend to teach your daughter–languages are SO useful. Especially in the global economy. You’ll be giving her a headstart that few youngsters have.

Wouldn’t it be fabulous if your daughter were to pick up some of the Cantonese? It would be so easy for her to do if you talk to your grandmother in cantonese. I speak some German and have on and off tried to teach my boys.
I love the pic of them together. Boy she will love that when she gets older.

Wow, 95 and 3! That must be how my daughter feels when she has her two and her husbands 93 year old grandfather, only he speaks English as do all the others — only at 93 he doesn’t hear very well.

The picture is definitely a keeper — one to be treasured. So even though you are feeling a bit overwhelmed (I mean vitamins mustn’t be traded) try to relish the moments.

I love that picture. I somewhat understand where you are coming from. My mother-in-law lives with us and although she is 52 you would have thought we had another kid living with us. She has sarcoidosis along with diabetes. She has so much medication that I’m not sure if she knows what they are for. Luckily I work outside of the home, but my poor husband doesn’t.

    What a beautiful pic!
My kids are half Japanese. They didn’t speak much Japanese until 2 years ago. Then I found a Japanese preschool. We are getting ready to go visit my husband’s family in Japan. I’m excited because this will be the first time that my kids will be able to speak directly with their grandparents and great grandmother too. But as I’m sure you already know, they don’t always need to speak the same language to communicate.
Good luck taking care of everyone!
