How Much Woodchuck Would a Human Chuck if a Woodchuck Would Chuck Wood Sooner?

Dear Groundhog residents of the U.S. and Canada,

Today is the day all of your adorable, furry faces will peek out from your groundhog holes.  As your whiskers twitch and tiny paws pull you up with curious trepidation, I would like to extend to you a most cloudy welcome.  Pay no mind to the daunting 3-foot snow banks and leafless trees.  They are all part of nature’s beauty;  par for the seasonal course. However, you and I know that you all hold an important key to turning this around.

So listen up furries.

While you rise to the surface, may your sleepy heads and dewy eyes cloud your judgment of any shadows upon the ground.  All bright, sunny visions are only a figment of your imagination.   And any dark figures are probably just humans looming over your burrow, awaiting with sledgehammers held high to beat the idea of six more weeks of winter out of your peanut size minds.

So I bid you a “hello” and “goodbye” my wise, rodent friends.  May you make the right choice this year, and come back sooner than later to see leaves upon the trees again.

Yours truly,

A northeast human sick of shoveling, picking and falling on her ass in the snow.

P.S.  I have a dog.  He likes to chase….

ROFL. Funny stuff. Imagine, if you will, a man who woke up Thursday morning to temps in excess of 80 degrees, and high humidity, just laying in bed, sweating, and enjoying EVERY MINUTE of it, who then, on the following Saturday morning, is standing in his driveway, chopping ice away. Meh.

It’s 70 degrees here and I, for one, would like winter to last a little longer.

So, groundhog, you have a safe haven at my place. :P

I can sense the warmth and love you have for these little critters with “So listen up furries”. So kind of you to let your dog play with them! :P

I often wonder if Ground hog day was made up by disgruntled weather anchors. Finally someone ELSE to blame for crappy weather. (I ALWAYS blame the weather man/woman)

I wish you the best with this. And not to rub it in or anything but it’s weird to live in a place where groundhog day has not much meaning at all. As in, where I live. Where it’s like 75 degrees today. It’s weird. It really is.

This post had me cracking up at my desk. I also love how you just slightly threaten him with your dog. I always wondered if this method is truly scientific.

It doesn’t look like any groundhog would see much of a shadow, but I think there is zero chance we don’t have at least six more weeks of winter here in Anchorage. At this point, only six more weeks of winter would be fabulous.

uggh, send the dog after Phil. They said 6 more weeks of winter.

Not that we have anything like the snow that you all have up there (believe me I know, my Mom grew up in Westwood Mass), but I am READY for sime spring. I go outside and look for one just one tiny peice of grass that is turning green. I haven’t gotten to see it yet, but I keep looking!

PS It is suppose to be 70 on Friday here!!

Hahaha! I love the picture of the dog. He looks like he has had enough winter as well. Groundhog day means nothing to people in Saskatchewan. It does not matter at all what the groundhog says. We know we will have 6 more weeks of winter. Heck! We will probably have 8 to 10 more weeks of winter.

Your dog is adorable. I feel sorry for the poor, harassed groundhogs. There was a photo in the paper of “Punxatawney Phil,” writhing in panic as he/she was being held up by his “keeper.” I felt so sad for the poor little wild critter, not understanding the crazy things humans do based on superstition. Why can’t we respect the animals or just leave them alone?

That being said, this was really funny! I agree, I’ve had enough of winter. Yesterday we had a weird, springlike day — ahhh! Today it’s snowing again. I haven’t fallen on my ass yet, but we’re not out of the woods yet either.
