I’ll come up with a title later

There is something to be said about procrastination.

At least for me there is, because I can take it to a whole different level.

Forget putting something off until the last minute.  I’m talking about putting something off until it’s too late, all the while tackling everything else instead of doing what should be done.

In college, it was blatantly clear when I had an important paper due.  I would to spend hours cleaning and organizing my dorm before actually writing the first line of a 20-page paper…usually due the next day.

Or tonight, rather than writing this post, I spent the past hour on Picnik editing the headshot in the upper righthand corner of this page.

Then while tinkering in the back-end, I also decided to pull down the BlogHer ad from my sidebar (I have my reasons that I will not go into here.  But if you’re dying to know, shoot me a message and I will gladly share).

I will do just about anything to subconsciously distract me from starting something I actually need to get done.

Even right now, nearly 200 words into this entry, I am still sidestepping the actual point of this post.

In a nutshell, operation keep-busy-as-hell-procrastinating has set in BIG TIME.

What?  You figured that out already?

Well, what you did not know is that the reason for this recent wave of preoccupied procrastination, is that I have started having contractions.

Do you know what a 32-week pregnant woman is not supposed to have?

That’s right. It is way too soon to be having contractions.

Not the wussy, my-tummy-is-tightening kind of contractions (a.k.a. Braxton Hicks). No.  As of late last week, my uterus has been trying to squeeze this watermelon size fetus through a dime-sized opening sporadically throughout the day.

Mother nature is not a kind woman.

So of course I have been in and out of my doctor’s office, where various strangers have shoved half their arm up my va-jay-jay to poke around.

In fact, Mother nature can be kind of a bitch.

As of today, my cervix is still closed.

However, I cannot say that I am too surprised by all of this since I began premature labor with Babisodes at 25 weeks.

Anyhow, one would think that this alarming nudge in my final trimester would send me scrambling to finally get things ready for the baby.  Who knows! Maybe even give it a name or something.

One would think.

Nope. Instead I’ve been doing everything else.

Things such as moving Babisodes and all of her belongings into a larger bedroom.

Or sewing dolls for her and her friend’s birthday this week.

BabisodesBlackAppleDoll

Black Apple doll pattern can be found here.  That’s right.  It actually links to Martha Stewart, and I made something featured on her site.  The level of distraction is serious.

And rather than focusing on the now empty room upstairs known as the “nursery,” today I figured I’d skip all that and start preparing an overnight bag for the hospital.

Just in case.

I think I’m making great progress.

Thats the cutest procrastination I’ve ever seen! And as far as the hospital bag, I mean what else do you need really? I hope your contractions chill out and that mother nature stops being such a bitch. And I wasn’t curious until you mentioned I might be dying to know and then, go figure, I was dying to know :P That’s okay though, my attention span is quite frequently blown away by that of goldfish so I doubt it will bother me for very long. :)

The suitcase says it all… I went into premature labor too. Had my daughter at 32 weeks it can be overwhelming and that is what I think you are feeling now…it is all normal! You just have a lot going on. But you do have your bases covered with packing the overnight bag. Don’t put so much stress on yourself it WILL all work out. Even if you have the baby in a bassinet and put the nursery together after wards…Easy does it. You need to REDUCE your stress it is NOT good for YOU or the BABY.
