Looking back to go forward
I am beginning to look forward to this time of year.
Throughout the year I usually avoid sifting through my entry archives like the plague.
When I first began blogging, I would reread posts just days old, sometimes weeks.
I do not recommend it.
Doing so usually resulted in huge gaping holes in my archives. Mainly because revisiting those words, those emotions, was too soon. And clicking ‘Delete’ is a quick way of mediating the situation.
So now I make a concerted effort to hold off on reviewing old entries until the end of the year. And these past few days have been a whirlwind looking back.
I laughed. I cried. And 150 posts later, I am still smiling.
So I have resolved to not post a list of resolutions this year.
I have mentioned here before how there is nothing “resolute” about me. I am the most indecisive person on Earth, and the worst thing anyone could do is to give me options.
So rather than spout off a list of goals that I will most likely, probably, or maybe aim for in 2010, this year I am happy to just go with the flow. Take life as it comes.
Because in the New Year, I cannot think of anything I wish to change. So much lies ahead in the coming months for our family, and I hope to savor every moment without having any preset bar or expectations for them.
2009 was a roller coaster emotionally, financially, and physically, but I am incredibly grateful for where I am today. I am grateful for my extensive archives here filled with memories. I am grateful for everything, and everyone in my life today.
Including each and every one of you who come here to visit.

- Sure why not, I guess not EVERYONE has seen it – Yes, I really blogged about there. Mainly because everyone did see it.

- A gambler is nothing but someone who makes their living out of hope – Vegas. Gambling. Loss. Hope. About sums up 2009.
- Male order metamorphosis – A common theme about how my husband can be brilliant, and totally clueless. Especially with gift-giving.
- Soul food – Explains my mild OCD with rice.
- Blowin’ smoke – Exactly what it is.

I read every one of those … and more. And loved every one.
I never go back to re-read. At least, not yet. On the other hand, when you write a “Sienfeld blog” (a blog about nothing) the chances of writing something that you’ll regret later are minimal.
Today is the last day of two consecutive years of blogging every day. By now, there is so much to read I couldn’t find the good stuff even if I wanted to.

2009 will be one for the history books, that’s for sure, but it would be nice to be able to go back and ‘delete’ a few of those ugly days.

I’m wondering what I posted this time last year too. I might do a review in pictures, but I haven’t had time to look into it properly. Never enough hours in a day, that ‘ll probably never change! 2009 has been a special year for you, and you have a lot to look forward too. I hope 2010 is even better!

Congratulations, I’m glad you decided to go with the flow instead of making resolutions! I made that decision a couple of years ago, after several decades of obsessively reviewing the past year and making resolutions.
Your photo collage is great, and the posts were pretty diverse! I’m glad you got your fondest wish in 2009. I hope 2010 is even better!

I so like your comment that there is nothing resolute about you. I find that to be true myself. Why make a resolution when you know that in probably a very short time it will morph into something else.
There’s always too much going on nowadays.

I love to bake too. In fact, I baked an apple pie a while ago (using maple syrup instead of butter) that turned out great. I took a few photos so I could share the recipe, but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. Maybe soon.
