See? I Haven’t Lost My Mind…Yet

Since becoming a mother, I’ve somehow developed a form of mental procrastinating. Unless something is supposed to happen within the next 24-48 hours, I’m not thinking about it.

I rarely pre-write blog posts. I usually have no idea what I’ll be writing about until the night before, or in the morning before I post. What’s for dinner?  I’ll decide around 5pm.

Three weeks ago, I checked out music from our local library for Babisodes. A Wonder Pets and Backyardigans CD. On Tuesday I received an email notification stating they were due back on Thursday.

Of course, when did I start gathering the CD’s to return?

Wednesday.

I powered up our CD/DVD player and opened the disc changer.

Wonder Pets CD? Check.

Layers of dust? Check.

Backyardigans CD? … Negative.

For about an hour, I calmly searched through the few CD storage compartments in our TV cabinet.  Then I moved to my car, and then my upstairs bedroom.  Finally, I began interrogating Babisodes as a witness, or possible suspect.

No dice.

Okay. Time to panic.

So I tore my house apart…for hours. HOURS!

It wasn’t about the lousy $15 fine I would probably have to pay.  It was the principle of losing something that didn’t belong to me.  Plus, I swore it was in the disc changer.  Was I losing my mind?

I had.to.find.it.

I checked everywhere, including my freezer and a potted plant.

Nada. Zip. Zilch.

* Front door opens as Dadisodes arrives home *

Me: Pleeeeaaase!  HELP…ME!

Dadisodes: What? What? What? What’s wrong?

Me: I can’t find the Backyardigans CD! It’s due back tomorrow and *sniff* I can’t find it!!! They’re gonna put my picture on the wall so kids can throw darts at it!  *throws face into hands*

Dadisodes:
Stop it.

<Pause>

*Insert dim light bulb flickering above Dadisodes’ head*

Dadisodes: Uh…I moved the CD/DVD player on Monday.

*Walks briskly to CD/DVD player with screwdriver in hand*

And to THINK! I swooned over his mad geek skills this week; his coveted technical intelligence that keeps this blog running.  You would think he had the common sense to TAKE OUT the friggin’ CD’s before moving the machine.

P.S. There were other CD’s’s wedged in there from 3 years ago…when I tore apart our previous home to find them.

Thanks for the giggle. I hope, though that your CD player is back in one piece and playing again.

I did not know that the discs could fall into the machine like that. On the plus side…you got back the other missing discs.

Is that all they do to you…post a picture? I think they take you straight to jail where I live. That is why I never borrow things from the library. I was always afraid that my children would have to grow up childless!

    Muah – :D
I didn’t know CD players do that. WOW :D
Thanks for the laugh :) !

In his defense – at least he knew where to look. Some guys would just have said “tough shit!” and let it go at that. Not that I would encourage that kind of thing. That’s never the way to handle interpersonal relationships. Especially if you expect your relationship to continue to be ‘interpersonal’ (ahem, cough).

At least they were found. And he did save the day. Do kids really throw darts at pictures, or just stick gum on your nose and draw you a mustache?

The thing I get a kick out of is imagining the photo shoot that has to happen for the post. Does Dadisodes know the photo shoot is happening and laughing it off, or is he grumbling?

I do some of the same stuff, and sometimes I feel awkward whipping out a camera to capture the moment.

This is funny! Although probably not for you. I’m not real happy with the way Dadisodes talks to you, based on the last few posts, but at least he knew where to look and why. And the adorable Babisodes was innocent! ;-)

Sounds like my house, except my scenario would’ve ended with husband laughing at me and telling me it WAS JUST A DVD and then he’d look nonchalantly in the fridge or something and tell me he looked but couldn’t find it. Even if he did move the dvd player and it was in there…We MIGHT find it if we ever got it serviced…in 5 years. But then again, our dvd player only plays one at a time. We are currently missing 2 DVDs that I know of and I have no clue where they could be. I’m blaming my toddler. She’s obsessed with opening and then trying to insert DVDs into the player.

Wow, I didn’t realize that CD’s can jump like that! Wait a minute, we have a DVD missing from 2 years ago, maybe we need to do the same thing!

And in terms of pre-writing posts? I have taken it to the extreme for this NaBloPoMo. I’ve got posts lined up through 11/28 and from the looks of it, will have posts going up everyday while I’m on vacation the first week of December. So much for spontaneity!

You know what, I can’t help but to laugh at this. For one, I think I have definitely caught that procrastination bug that comes along with childbirth. I had a doctor’s appointment on Thursday and did not decided to look for my insurance card until Wednesday. However, I had to reschedule until next Thursday. Have I started looking for the card? As far as blogs, I recently started blogging, but I would forget to blog. I decided to write down a bunch of topics. So I would just read them and as one hits my “spirit” I will blog.

I’m not doubting you, but if you really presented your delimma to Daddisodes the way you described, hands to face -sob-, I’m surprised he would help. Around here I would have gotten an, “Oh quit being so dramatic.” The geek part of him knew where to look. I wouldn’t have.

Oh so frustrating! Our family loses library stuff all the time. Then, the whole family has to search for hours until it finally shows up behind the computer desk or innocently shelved between our tons of books. Each time, I swear we will never check anything out from the library ever again…but we always go back. :)
