Signs of a realist

I am officially the worst mother in the blogosphere.

My daughter’s 4th birthday recently passed, and I did not write a tribute/you’re the greatest thing that ever happened/I love you more than words could ever express post.

Shame on me.

But in my defense, the hotel de Momisodes has been in full swing, and I’ve been driving around town entertaining guests for weeks now.  Not to mention, I’m pregnant.

My usual 1:00am bedtime has now turned into I-can-barely-keep-my-face-off-the-table-during-dinner around 6:00pm, let alone stay up for another 7 hours.

So you’ll have to pardon my recent absenteeism,

Nevertheless, Babisodes’ 4th birthday party went well (despite the torrential rain forcing the festivities to be held indoors).

And hopefully in a few years when she reads this blog, she will forgive her lazy, exhausted mother for not posting a warm, touching post about her fourth year of life.

Perhaps she will enjoy these impressive photos of her birthday party’s Pin-The-Dog Bone-in-Bolt’s-Mouth game.

And then…

…find it amusing how she decided hours later where all of the bones would precisely end up.

(Bolt sketch credit goes to Babisodes’ aunt.  I can barely draw stick figures that resemble humans.)

Hehehe, cute. I wouldn`t worry about not having a big birthday post thingy. Back before blogs, most people didn`t make it past about 3 weeks of keeping track of stuff in the baby book, let alone documenting all the other stuff or writing heartfelt posts. Sure, sometimes letters, but even that`s more a good idea than something that actually happens. What counts most is all the other days, the every day days, anyway. You`re all over those, and it`s awesome.

When do folks leave your place? Guests are good in small doses for short times and probably not so much while tired from pregnancy.

  2. Jen of a2eatwriteNo Gravatar

Well, she’s certainly learning and growing, even if she has a tired Momisodes. Hey, you have a right to be tired. And Babisodes seems no worse for the wear. And when on earth are those guests of yours LEAVING? Huge hugs.

  3. jameilNo Gravatar

lol. i don’t believe for a minute sweet little babisodes did that!

  4. Tara R.No Gravatar

That seems right, at least with my dogs anyway. Too funny! Happy belated Babisodes B-Day!

  5. HappyNo Gravatar

You are very funny. Happy Birthday to your little girl and congrats on your pregnancy! First trimester fatigue is a drrrragggg…been there, done that…am just nearing the end of my third “tour of duty.”

Love the bone placement, by the way. Smart girl!

  6. AmyNo Gravatar

So funny! And I am sure she will forgive you. I mean you are giving her a younger sibling, after all. What a funny little girl you have. Good luck with the tiredness. just remember, second trimester gives you energy. Hang on for the second!

  7. scrappysueNo Gravatar

as long as she enjoyed the party – that’s all that matters! thanks for stopping by

  8. JacNo Gravatar

    Happy (Belated) Birthday Babisodes!

And don’t feel bad at all… I almost completely missed Wuzzle’s birthday too… (and it was her 1st; so it’s kind of a big deal…)

  9. EmilyNo Gravatar

Hm, excuses, excuses. She’ll probably need therapy for this! Just kidding! I’m glad you’re still around and even happier to hear that Babisodes had a great 4th birthday despite the rain! Happy birthday to your first baby!

  10. CarlenNo Gravatar

Happy Bday Not-so-Babysodes! Wow the Big 4, she must be sooo beside herself and counting down the days till the next big bash :o )
    Kisses for the bday girl,
    C

  11. Muthering HeightsNo Gravatar

Well, no worries…I doubt she reads your blog!

  12. BuckeroomamaNo Gravatar

I did mine late, too… :) It’s the thought that counts.

While I love having guests, I do get tired of playing tourist guide and coordinating schedules. Our guests just left this Sun and I’m now down with a head cold. Ugh.

  13. the planet of janetNo Gravatar

she is a clever, clever girl, that babisodes!

  14. GennyNo Gravatar

Glad she had a great bday. Hope you are doing well!

  15. Lisa @ Crazy Adventures in ParentingNo Gravatar

I doubt she minded your not dedicated a slobbery post to her. However, the Bolt drawing? Fantabulous. You’ve got skill, sister.

  16. JenniferNo Gravatar

Great photos! I love the drawing and I bet the game was a lot of fun. :) Happy WW!

  17. ceemeeNo Gravatar

You have great photos as proof of her birthday party anyway. And she’ll always be reminded of her obsession with Bolt. Hope you get lots of rest after all that hosting of guests. :-)

  18. JientjeNo Gravatar

She’s so resourceful!! A few years from now, when she reads this blog, she’ll know what a great mother you are! Take care. Make sure you’ll take your rest. ( Do I sound like your mother now? ) We will still be here keeping an eye on you!

  19. AJNo Gravatar

A realist and a good understanding of digestion, I like it!

  20. bluevioletNo Gravatar

That game is a fun one, cute idea! And her sense of humor is developing already.

  21. MarylinNo Gravatar

Aww bless her, glad she had a good time, and I hope you get enough sleep – although it never feels like it, does it? :) /hugs xx

  22. lceelNo Gravatar

She is such a gorgeous little girl – but 4????? Wow. Where does the time go?

Now, to paraphrase an old little ditty that originally referenced elbows:

    Sandy, Sandy,
    Strong and able,
    Keep your head up,
    Off the table.

    Manners, you know?

    Love you.

  23. Karen MEGNo Gravatar

Happy Belated birthday to your 4 year old princess! Four is a really, really good year. Four and a half is apparently even better ;) !

Hope you’re doing well, sweetie, and getting some rest between all that entertaining…whew!

  24. Amy @ The Q FamilyNo Gravatar

Don’t beat yourself up. I think you are one of the best mommy blogger out there. She will understand. :) Rest and take care of yourself. Hope you will have your energy back soon. :)

And Happy Belated Birthday to Babisodes!!!

  25. DebNo Gravatar

Congrats on Babisodes’ 4th birthday–and the next birthday to be!

Just discovered Momisodes and think I’m hooked. :)

  26. lisNo Gravatar

Awww happy birthday to her!! and I think you have a very good reason why that post slipped thru the cracks this year :)

  27. Undercover PrincessNo Gravatar

Hey as long as your blog doesn’t end up in the way back machine…she will NEVER know you didn’t blog about her. I certainly won’t tell her…

And the back end is where the bones come back out at anyway…

My niece had pin the horn on the unicorn. I won’t tell you where my 11 year old put it…..in his defense he was blindfolded like everyone else.

  28. wenNo Gravatar

lol! u shd just go back to using the donkey instead!

  29. Karen @ If I Could EscapeNo Gravatar

Awww, I wouldn’t worry much about not posting a big birthday tribute . . . I think it’s quite apparent how you feel about your little girl! x

  30. KimberlyNo Gravatar

HA! HA! I love that. Clearly, she understands the work involved with having a dog. :-)

How are you feeling? I’m terribly behind on blogs.

  31. Lisa @ Boondock RamblingsNo Gravatar

I’m here as a representative of Mommy Bloggers of America to inform you that you will be drummed out of the corps at 1800 hours for your obvious oversight in blogging about your child’s fourth birthday. We are ashamed and embarrassed to call you one of our own.

Have I mentioned how sarcastic I am?

    :-)

  32. Felicia - I Complete MeNo Gravatar

That is too funny!!! It’s okay that you didn’t right a post. I mean you only have guests at your house and not to mention you are housing a human in your body (that alone is a lot of work). But it’s nice to know that my reader is still working and that you just been too tired/busy to post.

  33. Cassandra {Simply Fearless}No Gravatar

Good on you for passing on the pressure-filled post of “my kid’s the best thing that ever happened to me.” While pregnant one of the best things that can happen is extra sleep. And believe me, that’s good for you and Babisodes! Take good care :~)

  34. CookieNo Gravatar

ROFL! Love where the bones went!
Hope you’re feeling better soon. They say the first trimester is the worst, but I thought the entire 9 months was pretty difficult when you already have one little one to take care of.

  35. Cascia @ Healthy MomsNo Gravatar

Get as much rest as you can now. We totally understand. Happy belated birthday to Babisodes.

  36. Susie's HomemadeNo Gravatar

    Too funny!!

I hope she had a great birthday:-)

  37. Staci ANo Gravatar

How fun! Hope she had a wonderful birthday!

  38. ElaineNo Gravatar

She’s one smart cookie, that babisodes! Glad she had a great party and Happy late Birthday to her.

    Hope you are feeling well…

  39. kspinNo Gravatar

I remember being that tired…it wasn’t too long ago! Now I’m tired but it’s different. Pregnancy is not my friend. :-)

  40. Krista BNo Gravatar

Hahaha. See you learn young – a moment on the lips a lifetime on the hips! :)

    Very cute.

  41. JeanetteNo Gravatar

Oh lol how gorgeous is that drawing of the dog!

  42. Holly at Tropic of MomNo Gravatar

That’s just pregnancy for ya! Babisodes will be non the wiser. How cool that she’s four! And I had forgotten how much she likes Bolt. What a clever game for her birthday. :)

  43. perpstuNo Gravatar

Very cute! I hope Babisodes had a fantastic time!

  44. Michelle @ one crafty mamaNo Gravatar

I love that you threw your daughter a nice old fashioned pin the tail of the doggie type party. Home parties are the best and that is what she will remember the most.

Plus, I think that bloggers should only be allowed to gush about their birthday kid every other year. :)

  45. Deb - Mom of 3 GirlsNo Gravatar

LOL, well at least she had the right idea, if the wrong game. Sort of, lol. Love the Bolt theme – we may have one of those this year too. :)

  46. Rachel @ Grasping for Objectivity in my Subjective LifeNo Gravatar

You know, ooshy gooshy Birthday posts always make me squeamish. It’s like they’re required and expected, so are they really meaningful?

Therefore, I’m using YOU as an excuse as to why I don’t have to do a third birthday ooshy gooshy post for Ali.

“SANDY didn’t do it, so I don’t have to either!!!”

    Thanks!

  47. Talina of Harvest of Daily LifeNo Gravatar

I am so excited that you are pregnant and I am sure the absence of the 4 year old birthday post will be forgiven.

I don;t think I’ll be writing those posts for Everly, ever. I am not a gooshy person :-/

  48. HeatherNo Gravatar

I was JUST thinking about you today, wondering how you were! Happy [Belated] Birthday to Babisodes! It sounds like it was wonderful!

Now get some rest, and enjoy the quiet! ;)

  49. GrandyNo Gravatar

Well happy birthday lil’ babisodes! You spent the day with your girl, and used your energy on that. No one will look at this blog and think that you lack in “I love you moments” with your daughter. ;)

Cut yourself some slack, or you’ll be guilting yourself silly when babisodes part deux arrives. You’ll change the name of your site to Sorrysodes.

  50. DotNo Gravatar

You’re doing the best you can, probably more than you should. And Happy Birthday to Babisodes!

  51. AsianmommyNo Gravatar

So cute! Happy Bday to Babisodes!

  52. Angela at mommy bytesNo Gravatar

Happy birthday Babisodes!! And after 5 years of blogging, I have yet to write an ode to my son… Maybe this year. And maybe next year I will write my labor story of Dova because it sure ain’t happening this Labor day…

Did you draw that picture of Bolt? You are so artistic!

    Rest up!!

  53. traceyNo Gravatar

Great poster! I love those games.

Hope the fatigue stage passes quickly. That’s the worst, imho.

  54. CCNo Gravatar

Bwhahahaha! I’ve been a total slacker on writing things to my kids. My goal was to at least write them and their birth parents one letter per year about all the things they’ve done. Um. Yeah. Well, dd’s 4th birthday is next week… maybe I’ll do better then.

  55. Christie-The ChatterBoxNo Gravatar

Don’t feel bad…both of my kids birthdays came and went without so much as a mention on my blog! Well…Jackson got a mention due to that damned Diego balloon incident! I have just been so exhausted it is amazing that I post at all really. You have better excuses than I do so consider yourself off the hook!

  56. ChrissyNo Gravatar

HAHA! Oh, I just love Babisodes! What a cutie! Love where the bones ended up! LOL!

How are you feeling, btw…besides the tiredness? I’m so excited that you’re expecting!!! XOXO

  57. katcarneoNo Gravatar

So Bolt has really got to be a part of her party. It isn’t Bolt-themed, right? Anyway, I can imagine her happy face playing this game.
