A creature was stirring, probably a mouse;

Half nibbled bread was placed atop the refrigerator with care,

In hopes that a small rodent would soon be there;

The child was nestled all snug in her bed,

While visions of Angelina Ballerina danced in her head;

And papa in his PJ’s, with me on his lap,

Had just settled down in the living room to hear a long awaited ‘Snap!’

When out from the kitchen there arose such a clatter, Dadisodes sprang from the couch to see what was the matter.

Away to the second floor I flew like a flash,

Tore open the bedroom door and slammed it behind with a bash.

The moon on the breast of the week old-fallen snow

Gave the lustre of somberness to the world outside the window below,

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,

But a heroic Dadisodes carrying a dead mouse to the trashcan without fear.

Sorry.

After looking at my calendar I realized 3 things.

1) Holy crap! It’s the eve of New Year’s Eve.

2) I can’t end the year with such a depressing post.

3) I have not posted an update about our Christmas, the New Year, ghosts, or anything in such a long time!

So bear with me if you will.  Here is a laundry list of “stuph” that should wipe my slate clean for the New Year.
Christmas:

Babisodes: *tears wrapping paper off box*

Wow!  A insert toy/gift/clothing article?  It’s JUST what I wanted!!!

Wash, rinse, and repeat for every single gift.  Viola.  Merry Christmas!

Three year olds are so easily pleased.  You gotta love it.

Dadisodes: *tears wrapping paper off his Life Hammer/gag gift*

Wow!  A Life Hammer! This is REALLY a great gift!!!

Dude.  Clearly, I will never find something that will make this man flinch.  But don’t think I’m going to give up trying! I know exactly what I’m giving him next year.

Me: *tears wrapping paper off box*

Wow!  Uh…is this a vibrator?  You shouldn’t have.

Thank you so much for the awesome iPod you gave me for my birthday last month. I really love it!

Ghosts/Ghostses/Creepy crawly stuff goin’ on up in herre:

Since the last few bizarre encounters, there has only been 1 incident.  Dadisodes and I were lying in bed late one night when we heard a soft, young voice (not Babisodes’) whisper, “Mom…”

We had to change the sheets. Immediately.

Preschool:

Today was Babisodes’ official last day of preschool.   I am a bit sad that she will no longer have this time to herself  twice a week, and I will miss my “me time” dearly.  The school has graciously offered to save us a spot for Fall if would like re-enroll her in September.

Resolutions:

I made a list of resolutions for 2008 and updated it mid year.  I will not be revisiting the list today. Let’s just say that out of 13 goals, I’ve crossed off maybe 2. There is nothing “resolute” about me. I am the most indecisive person on Earth. I can barely settle on what foods to eat every day.  So this year, I’m setting the bar low.  Really low.  As in, heck no am I making a list again.

New Year:

Holy crap. Can I tell you how much I’m looking forward to the New Year?  2008 had some great moments, but I have to say that the sucky to great moment ratio was definitely skewed.  So after blogging about it for 365 days, the New Year will start with a short bloggy break. Yup, that’s right folks.  Momisodes will NOT be clogging up your Readers and Inboxes for a few days. Did you hear that?  D_A_Y_S.  Dadisodes nearly passed out when the words slipped out of my mouth.  It is the least I could do for myself (and you).  And those who are also crawling past the Blog365 finish line?  I hope you’ll do the same.

So there you have it.  I hope I’ve covered my bases for unfinished business in 2008.

I want to thank each and every one of you who come and visit my humble blog. This marathon blogging experience has turned out to be far more than I anticipated. I have made personal growth and incredible connections with so many of you that I will forever hold dearly.  The relationships I’ve found online are difficult to put into words, sparing any chance of sounding a bit loony.  But please know that I treasure you all.   Your emails, comments and messages have lifted and carried me through this arduous year of incredible highs and lows, and for that and so much more….I thank you.

Wishing all of you (even lurkers) all the best for 2009.

1) I ate half of a chocolate cake this week. I’m afraid my few attempts at exercise will be futile in burning this off. Actually, *shhhh* if you listen real close, you can hear the seams of my pants begging for mercy.

2) I made it all the way across town to pick up Dadisodes, ate dinner in public, went to the bathroom, looked down, and finally noticed I was wearing brown flip flops with a black shirt. Gah! We had to go home immediately.

3) I broke out in acne so bad this week, I felt inclined to call all of my close friends and have them pinky swear not to tell anyone that Dadisodes made it past 2nd base.

4) I have 800 unread posts in my Reader. If I click on anything, I’m afraid it will self destruct.

5) On my bus ride back from NYC, the woman sitting beside to me kept crowding my space.  Her leg kept creeping up against my thigh.  Her feet inched over into my feet space.  I finally began to fake cough violently into my hands and wipe them onto the side of my pants.  I sat comfortably with plenty of space the rest of the trip home.

6) There are too many awesome blogs to read. Can some official please grant bloggers with 26-hour days?

7) While pulling into my driveway, I noticed the shutters inside one of my bedroom windows were open (they’re usually closed). When I walked into my bedroom, all of the shutters in the room were closed tightly. This is the same area where the TV incident happened.

8 ) My bewbs have been killing me all week. Like I’ve been breastfeeding teething twins (which BTW I’m not. This dairy queen closed down over a year ago).

9) I have been feeling exhausted and tired every day. I wish I could roll out a mat and curl up with my blanket for nap time. I don’t think we can afford to send me to preschool, but a girl can still dream of juice boxes and snacks.

10) My period was supposed to start on Monday.

11) #1, 8, 9, and 10 convinced me that we could be pregnant.

12) Aunt Flo decided to show up today. *sigh*

13) “Trying” (trying to conceive) isn’t as fun as I thought it would be. Obligatory sex on demand isn’t always hot.

Okay, perhaps this isn’t exactly the view. Our neighbors are not painting their house the color of the sun, and I’m not that creepy to snap random photos of people from my bedroom window. But imagine if you will that shirtless male painter….times three.

Wait. Uh….what was I saying?

*Shakes head*

Oh yes, the view. So these kind gentlemen are all outside painting our neighbor’s house in the daytime. Throughout the day my daughter and I often go in and out of the house to run errands. The inquisitive and blatantly honest toddler that she is immediately blurts out while climbing into our car 5 feet away,…

“Mommy! Why those man’s nekkid?”

*Dies a little inside*

Me (softly but matter of fact): Silly girl, they’re not naked. They’re just not wearing any shirts.

Babisodes: But why they not wear shirts?

Me (closes door quickly and starts engine): Because it’s hot outside. And when it’s hot, sometimes boys and men, and ONLY boys and men, will take their shirts off.

Babisodes: Okay mommy.

*Sigh of relief*

We continue on with our day of errands. After a few hours of driving around town, I stop at an intersection to allow a few cyclists and joggers to cross the road.

Babisodes: Mommy, why all doz man’s wearing shirts?

Momisodes: What do you mean? People are supposed to wear shirts.

Babisodes: But they man’s. They need to be nekkid.
