Bird, bird, bird, burned is the word

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009

Just when things were starting to slow down, a new kind of madness ensues.

Babisodes is finally feeling better and back in good health.  I, on the other hand, am wiped. Not sick, but just tired.

However, I am hanging in there.  I have to because Thanksgiving is kind of a big thing for us.  Besides, what could be better motivation for a pregnant woman than a full day of food and gluttony, followed by Black Friday hysteria?

Are you brave enough to venture out in the wee hours after consuming pounds of tryptophan and stuffing for Black Friday sales?  I stood outside Wal-mart in 30F degrees last year and scored major deals. Part of me wants to do it again, but it’s like the running of the bulls, while trying to snatch toys and flat screens off shelves at the same time.  At 4am.  Not sure if that’s the best thing for a pregnant woman to do.  I may need to settle for Cyber Monday.

Anyhow, this Thanksgiving seems to have such special meaning. Especially since we have so much to be thankful for.

This may be the first turkey day our daughter will remember, and it will probably be our last one celebrated as a family of three.  So Babisodes will surely be helping in the kitchen this year, even if the turkey is almost half her size.

A year ago, my husband lost his job and took the leap to start his own company, and I am thankful it has survived its first year in business.

I am thankful for my daughter being healthy again after a long week of fever and cough.

I am thankful for my growing bun in the oven.

I am thankful for my daughter’s ever growing spontaneous, sarcastic humor….

(Note: She is saying, “Burnt,” not “Burped”)

I swear on my coveted sweet potato casserole covered in mini marshmallows I did not prompt her to report to her grandparents that her father burned his breakfast.  However, I make no promises on that snarky, mocking tone of hers.

I am thankful that I will be in charge of cooking our Thanksgiving meal.  I do not enjoy extra crispy fowl.

But I am thankful that Dadisodes will be handling the bag of turkey innards stuffed inside the bird and not me.

And of course, I am thankful for having this space to voice my thoughts, interact with you, and build friendships that I cherish.

I look forward to catching up with all of you soon.  Shortly after my two day cooking spree.

Wishing you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving.
