Blacked out

Tuesday, December 1st, 2009

Does it really say December at the top of this post?

Where the heck did November go?

There must be some level of amnesiacs in Turkey, because I seriously have no idea where the past week went.

All I know is that I posted here seven days ago, and I think I said something along the lines of Black Friday being a bad idea for a pregnant woman.

Apparently, I’m incapable of following my own advice.

After cooking for two days straight, gorging myself with three plates of dinner and two helpings of dessert, I lapsed into a food coma pretty early on Thanksgiving day.

Then Ms. Peanut inside my belly decided to tap dance on my bladder at 3:45 in the morning.  After schlepping myself out of bed to pee, I figured why not go out.  I was already up.

Then I looked outside.  It was pouring rain.

The thermometer outside of our window read 37F degrees.

Pregnancy brain doesn’t always function in the wee hours of the night.

So I went out into the cold, wet and rainy night anyway.

However, let it be noted that I did use some discretion. I opted NOT to venture anywhere near the gnashing teeth and clawing arms of Wal-martians like I did last year.

Nope.  I took the safe(r) route and headed to Tar-jay, where the shoppers were surprisingly much less savage.  Not once did I fear for my life.

Here is the line outside of the store as I drove into the parking lot at 4:45am. The doors opened at 5am.

TargetBlackFriday

Yes, it was freezing.  Yes, it was raining.

Yes, I actually stood in that line that wrapped around the huge department store.

I did score some major bargains.  Although I have to say, I spent more time on Black Friday surfing the internet for deals than ever before.

I even repeated the scenario early Monday morning.  I woke up at 3-ish in the morning, hunkered down with my laptop in the dark, and hunted bargains in my Pj’s until the sun came up.

All in all, it was a successful week.  I have no idea where the time went, and I have heavy bags beneath my eyes,  but hey, at least most of my Christmas shopping is done.

Now that I can sleep I’m afraid to.  Next thing you know, I’ll wake up and it will be 2010.
