This has been something that has been frustrating me a lot lately too. There has been more than one instance when I've dropped off my kids and I've seen a child who can barely stand because they are so sick. I get so angry. I just don't get people sometimes.

My daycare sent the same letter about staying home for a week as well. I guess it's becoming standard issue.

Last year at our preschool Christmas pageant SEVERAL parents brought children ACTIVELY Suffering thru the stomach virus. They were overheard teaching the children the hand signal for "get me out of here, I'm going to puke!". SERIOUSLY - SEVERAL parents brought children WITH STOMACH VIRUSES to a church preschool so they could be in the show. And infect lots of other poor preschoolers JUST IN TIME for Christmas. Some people deserve to be shot.

Oh yeah, that totally ticks me off too. My son has a hard enough time breathing at night without being sick thank you very much!
I think people truly do not understand illness and how it spreads or at least I hope so. :(

Poor baby!

I would be completely angry too! I never take my kids out when they are sick and expect others to have the same common courtesy. It's not fair to have other people endanger your children!

Ugh. There is nothing that makes me more grumpy than people who don't keep their sick kids at home, even though I KNOW the pull of that desire myself, since it means I have to take a sick day too (and my kids have full-day daycare, which means that a lot of people send their kids sick because all the kids are there because parents work full time). Still, it's nothing but irresponsible to send a child to school who clearly just needs to sleep. And as a professor, I can say the same thing about older students: they also just try to "push through" and keep coming anyway until they simply break down. This not only makes them even sicker; it also makes the rest of us catch what they have. Having caught H1N1 myself and spent 10 days at home sick, I know it's really un-fun and super inconvenient. But I also know that it doesn't do anyone any good to spread the germ love around by traipsing all over creation with a sick kid (or adult) in tow. I totally feel your pain and hope Babisodes gets well soon.

If it's any consolation at all, our doctors around here are saying NOT to come in to see them with flu-like symptoms at all. They only want to see kids who are seeming to develop complications like pneumonia or sinus infections because all the cases of flu symptoms ARE the flu, and there's not much they can do except tell you that. (You don't want the nose-swab test to confirm it; it's really painful.) I've had several friends whose doctors actually told them just to keep the flu patients comfortable, and isolated at home, rather than adding to the exposure by taking them out -- even to the doctor. Not that it makes Babisodes feel better. But maybe it will make you slightly less frustrated about not being able to get through to the doctor.

I hope she gets well soon, and that you don't catch it!
