Your Love Is Better Than…Caffeine
So, I said I was going to take a little break.
And I was. But I lied. Sort of.
I was all ready to sulk in my pajamas all day in my- woe is me, these cramps are going to kill me, it’s still below freezing outside, and holy crap what the hell was I thinking when I decided to give up caffeine for lent- mode.
Which happens just about every month around this time. Except yesterday, there was no coffee or chocolate to get me through it. Only juice or ginger ale. And trust me, it is not the same. It’s just not.
So by 8pm, while putting Babisodes to bed, I leaned over and gave my usual spiel, “Goodnight honey. I love you. I’ll see you in the morning.”
With her arms wrapped tightly around my neck she whispered, “Mommy, can you stay wif me tonight?”
“I can stay just for a little while, K?”
“K. But mommy. How comes you had blood in the potty? You haf a boo boo?”
*sigh*
(Clearly, I have no privacy in this house.)
“No honey. I don’t have a boo boo. I’m just fine.”
She broke a smile and reached for my hand in the dark, “Awight. G’nite, mommy.”
By the time I finished telling her I was fine, she was already on her way out. She fell fast asleep, with her tiny hand wrapped gently around my index finger. Her assurance that I would never leave her alone.
And I cried.
I cried.
Until I finally decided I better get up and brush my teeth or else I’ll be bleeding from somewhere else I really don’t want to.
Then visions of me posting toothless, gummy headshots in the upper right corner of this blog entered my mind.
And I cried.
I was low. Real low. Thoughts of extending this break for weeks, maybe months, or even indefinitely entered my mind. Especially after reading Holly’s latest post.
So I checked my email one last time before tucking myself in for the night.
And I found out that I am a finalist for this.
Yea. I know right?
Is there some other Momisodes blog out there? Because I’m thinking they may have me confused with her.
I mean. It’s SCHOLASTIC. And they read_my_blog.
I nearly passed out deleted half my archives when I found out. I felt like I needed to tidy up the place before anyone else showed up. Or perhaps put up a sign asking to ignore all of my recent emotional posts. Oh, and for my unruly habits of wielding commas, fragments and run-on sentences.
I know it is a long shot, but I’m happy just riding the coattails of some of the bloggers on the list. If this is a dream, please don’t pinch me. You’ll wake me and my daughter. And she kicks…with precision.
Did I mention that the top five mommy bloggers will be featured in the June/July 2009 issue of Parent & Child Magazine?
*Eyes roll back and fans face*
